Bufftech Vinyl Fence Is Now Catalyst: What Changed in St. Louis

Bufftech vinyl fence is now sold as Catalyst. Oldcastle APG bought the Bufftech brand from CertainTeed in August 2023. In January 2025 it announced Catalyst Fence Solutions and moved Bufftech under that name, so the old brand no longer stands alone.

The fence itself did not vanish, but its name and many style names changed. You can get the new line installed here: vinyl fence installation in St. Louis.

Looking for CertainTeed fence? Bufftech was the vinyl fence brand of CertainTeed, which no longer makes fence, so this page covers it.

If you own a Bufftech fence, your fence is still there and so is your warranty paperwork. Who stands behind it depends on the date you bought it. This page gives you the dates, the warranty facts and a way to match a style.

What Happened to Bufftech, Step by Step

Here are the dates in order. Each one comes from a company release, a news report or our own check.

  1. 2022Oldcastle APG, a CRH company, bought Barrette Outdoor Living, a fence maker.
  2. August 1, 2023It bought CertainTeed’s fencing, railing and decking assets. The deal included the Bufftech and SimTek brands and two facilities, in Buffalo, New York and Orem, Utah.
  3. January 2025It announced Catalyst Fence Solutions. The new name pulls in Barrette Outdoor Living, National Vinyl Products, Alumi-Guard, ActiveYards, Aluminum Fence Supply, Bufftech and SimTek.
  4. TodayType the old bufftech.com address and you land on catalystfence.com. We checked on October 5, 2026.

Where this comes from. The Oldcastle APG release on the CertainTeed deal, a January 15, 2025 report on the Catalyst launch, and the redirect itself.

Signet Fence Supply, a fence supplier, says most Bufftech fences still sell under new Catalyst style names.

Does Your Bufftech Warranty Still Count?

Your Bufftech warranty depends on the day you bought the fence. Two different companies wrote the paperwork.

Bought before January 1, 2024: The CertainTeed warranty for fence bought on or after November 1, 2019 names CertainTeed LLC as the company behind it. Older paperwork may differ. You claim in writing, with proof of the buy date, the install date and that you own the property.

Oldcastle’s 2023 release does not say who handles claims on these older fences, and we found no page that does. Read a copy of the CertainTeed warranty.

Bought after January 1, 2024: The old Bufftech website lists a Barrette Outdoor Living warranty under the name Bufftech Fence Limited Lifetime Warranty. Barrette Outdoor Living is now Catalyst. Catalyst’s warranty page calls its own warranty transferable and limited lifetime, and never mentions Bufftech.

The Barrette warranty covers houses only and can pass to one new owner. After that it runs 30 years from the first buy date. You must register within 30 days, and it replaces product, not labor.

Your next step: Call before you count on a claim. Have your receipt, your install date and your fence style in hand.

  • Catalyst lists 888-549-7350 on its contact page. We read it on October 5, 2026.
  • The 2024 Barrette warranty prints 877-265-2220 for claims.
  • The 2019 CertainTeed warranty prints a consumer line, 800-782-8777. It may have changed.

You cannot get a ruling on a claim from us. Only the maker can rule on it.

Which Catalyst Style Replaces Your Bufftech Style?

Catalyst does not publish a one-to-one chart that we could find. Signet does list matches. Here are three of its pairings, all for styles sold in our shop.

Old Bufftech style Closest Catalyst style
Chesterfield Newbury
Sherwood Breckenridge
Allegheny Boulder

Where this comes from. Signet’s Bufftech to Catalyst list and its Newbury page. Signet also says not every match is exact.

A close match is normal. Barrette’s 2024 warranty even says a replacement may not match the original. Check the details in the box before you order.

Check these before you match a section

  • Rail size
  • Picket size
  • Panel width
  • Post size
  • How the rails attach, set into the post or held by brackets, and the cap style

Signet lists these same checks.

Two St. Louis Jobs Where the Old Style Was Gone

Matching is the hard part when a style is no longer made. Here are two jobs from 2026.

White 6-foot vinyl privacy fence beside a street in Arnold, MO

A second phase, with the first style gone

Morris, Arnold MO, May 30, 2026: 232 feet of 6 foot white vinyl privacy fence, done in 3 days.

The style from phase one was no longer made. The salesman found a close white privacy match, and on a large yard the small difference did not show.

The sonotubes already in the ground were too deep. The crew filled each one to height with crushed stone, then set the posts in concrete.

Old style no longer made

White 4-foot vinyl spaced picket fence along a backyard in Imperial, MO

A neighbor’s fence, ten years later

Emht, Imperial MO, July 29, 2026: 160 feet of 4 foot white vinyl picket fence and 1 gate, done in 2 days.

The homeowner wanted to match a neighbor’s fence that we built about 10 years earlier. That exact style was no longer made.

The salesman brought a large sample of a similar style to the estimate. The homeowner checked it against the old fence, and checked the picket gap against the smallest dog.

Old style no longer made

Neither job record names the maker of the old fence, so we do not either. In both jobs the answer was a close match, not an identical one. A sample at the estimate lets you judge the difference before you buy.

Bufftech Vinyl Fence: Common Questions

Is Bufftech still in business?

Not as its own brand. Oldcastle APG bought Bufftech from CertainTeed in August 2023.

In January 2025 it moved Bufftech under the Catalyst name. The old bufftech.com address now sends you to catalystfence.com.

Is Bufftech the same as Catalyst?

Catalyst now sells the fence that used to carry the Bufftech name.

Signet says many Bufftech styles continue under new style names, and that some are no longer made. Check before you assume an exact match.

Can I still buy Bufftech vinyl fence?

You can buy its Catalyst replacement. Bufftech is no longer sold as its own brand.

Our fence supply store in Arnold sells Catalyst fence, and we install it.

Is my Bufftech warranty still good?

It depends on when you bought the fence. Fence bought after January 1, 2024 falls under a Barrette Outdoor Living warranty listed on the old Bufftech site.

Older fence has a CertainTeed LLC warranty, and no page we found says who handles those claims today. Call Catalyst or CertainTeed with your receipt and install date.

Will Catalyst fence line up with my old Bufftech fence?

Close, but not always exact. In two of our 2026 jobs the old style was no longer made, and a close match worked.

Measure the rails, the pickets, the panel width and the posts, and look at a sample next to your fence.

Is the Catalyst warranty transferable?

Catalyst says its fences carry a transferable limited lifetime warranty.

The Barrette warranty listed for Bufftech fence passes to one new owner, then runs 30 years from the first buy date.
