Vinyl Fencing

Maintenance-Free Outdoor Solutions installs low-maintenance fence in Chesterfield, Missouri. We are family owned, we have installed across the St. Louis metro since 1994, and we work in four materials: vinyl, aluminum, steel and composite.

We do not install wood and we do not install chain link. In Chesterfield that lines up with the city design standards, which discourage chain link fencing outright.

Chesterfield sets its fence rules in the Unified Development Code, and two of them decide your project before you pick a color. A six foot line governs where your fence can sit. A thirty foot sight triangle governs what you can build near a corner or a driveway.

Who Builds Your Fence, and What Backs It?

Chesterfield sits on two different grounds about three miles apart, and the code treats a six foot fence and a seven foot fence as completely different structures. Both change the design before anything is ordered.

Aluminum Fencing
  • Our own crew builds it. We do not subcontract installation. The crew that quotes your fence is the crew that stands behind it.
  • At least 25 year warranties. All our vinyl fencing products carry at least 25 year manufacturing warranties, and most of them are lifetime. Aluminum, steel and composite carry their own manufacturer terms, and you get the warranty document for your exact product before you buy.
  • A fixed figure in writing, free. We walk the property, find the building line, look at the ground and price the run. You approve the layout, the heights, the gates and the final number before we order material.
  • No hard hole charge. Parts of Chesterfield sit on cherty ground over limestone. When a post hole hits rock, the price does not move.
  • Financing through Synchrony for qualified buyers.

Which Fence Type Fits Your Chesterfield Property?

The material follows the job, and in Chesterfield four of them cover it. Vinyl gives privacy without annual attention. Aluminum suits pool enclosures and front facing runs where you want the boundary without losing the view. Steel goes on commercial perimeters where strength is the point. Composite reads as a wall rather than a fence. If you are enclosing a pool, spa or hot tub, the barrier carries its own requirements including gate hardware, and we design to them rather than around them.

What Is Different About Digging a Fence Line in Chesterfield?

Chesterfield sits on two different grounds, and they are about three miles apart.

Up on the bluff, where most of the subdivisions are, the soil is Menfro: deep wind blown silt that digs clean and holds a post well. Mixed into it is Goss, a cherty soil formed over limestone. Goss is where the rock lives. A crew can set ten posts through silt and hit chert on the eleventh.

Down in Chesterfield Valley the ground changes completely. The valley is Missouri River floodplain, mapped mostly as Booker and Landes. Booker is a very poorly drained clay that shrinks and swells with the seasons and carries a hydric rating, meaning it holds water. Landes is sandy river deposit. Neither one gives you rock, and both ask a different question of a post: not whether we can get through it, but whether it will stay put.

So post depth, hole diameter and anchoring get set from what is actually under your yard. We do not quote a Valley job the way we quote a bluff job, and we do not bill you extra when the bluff turns out to be rock.

How Tall Can a Fence Be in Chesterfield?

Chesterfield allows a fence of six feet or less to sit inside the minimum yard setback. Above six feet, the fence loses that allowance and has to respect the building setback instead.

Fence Post Hole Cross Section

That six foot line is the rule that matters most, because it decides where your fence goes rather than just how tall it is. The Chesterfield Unified Development Code states that boundary walls, retaining walls or fences six feet or less in height are allowed within the minimum yard requirements. At that height the code treats a fence like a boundary wall and lets it sit within the yard requirement, which for most properties means on or near the property line.

Go above six feet and the fence is treated like any other structure. It has to respect the building setback, which pushes it in off the line, sometimes by a long way. Homeowners who ask for a seven foot privacy run are usually surprised by where it has to land. Our guide to fence height regulations compares that against the rest of the metro.

Chesterfield also caps anything inside the sight distance triangle at three feet above the street pavement. The code defines that triangle as the area bound by your property lines and a line connecting the two points thirty feet from where those lines intersect. It does not stop at corner lots. The definition states that the sight distance triangle also applies to driveways and points of ingress and egress, so a straight interior lot with a driveway meeting the street can still be caught by it.

In a planned district, your subdivision can be stricter than the city. The code grants the six foot allowance unless otherwise restricted in the conditions of any planned district ordinance, and a large share of Chesterfield was zoned that way. Your HOA sits on top of that again, with its own limits on material, color, height and which way the finished face points. Our HOA approval guide covers what a submission usually needs.

We confirm the permit requirement for your specific lot with the City of Chesterfield before anything is ordered, and where an inspection is required we call it in.

What Do Chesterfield Customers Say?

Chesterfield customers consistently raise the same two things: the price did not move, and the crew that quoted the job is the crew that built it.

Fence Planning FAQs

Call us at 636-464-1144 and we will tell you what the code allows on your lot before you commit to anything.

What is the sight distance triangle, and does it affect my lot?

Nothing over three feet tall can stand inside it, and in Chesterfield it is measured thirty feet back from the corner. The code defines it as the triangular area bound by your property lines and a line connecting the two points thirty feet from where those lines intersect. Critically, it also applies to driveways and points of ingress and egress, so interior lots are not automatically exempt. We check it before quoting, because it changes the design rather than the price.

Can my subdivision override the city fence rule?

Yes. Chesterfield grants the six foot allowance unless otherwise restricted in the conditions of any planned district ordinance, and much of the city was developed and zoned as planned districts. That means the governing document for your fence may be the ordinance attached to your subdivision rather than the city wide rule. Your HOA adds a further layer on material, color, height and orientation. We review both with you before design.

What does a fence cost in Chesterfield?

We put a fixed figure in writing before anything is ordered, and we do it free. The number covers the run, the heights, the gates and the hardware, and it does not move if the ground turns out to be rock. For ballpark figures before you call, see our guides to vinyl fence cost, aluminum fence cost and pool fence cost. Financing runs through Synchrony for qualified buyers.
