Maintenance-Free Outdoor Solutions installs vinyl, aluminum, steel and composite fence to O’Fallon, Missouri specification. The city writes an actual specification for vinyl fence into its code, down to the wall thickness of the posts.
O’Fallon is the only city in this metro that tells you how a vinyl fence has to be built. Its code carries a specification: ASTM standards, impact tested and UV stable material, self-extinguishing with a flash temperature of at least nine hundred degrees, bottom rails carrying a steel or aluminum stiffener channel, routed posts, molded caps, and a published wall thickness for every post, rail and picket size.
That is unusual, and it is good news if you were planning to buy on quality rather than price. It puts a floor under what can be installed here.
A permit is required for any fence thirty inches or taller, obtained from the Administrative Officer before construction. A fence built without one, or built out of compliance, has to be dismantled and removed at the owner’s expense, with fines of up to five hundred dollars per violation.
Why Customers Choose Maintenance-Free Outdoor Solutions
The digging is harder here than across the river bluff in St. Charles. O’Fallon sits largely on Weller and Armster, silt loams with tight clay subsoils that hold water and move with the seasons, plus a real amount of Goss, which is the cherty limestone soil that turns a post hole into a job. Crider and Menfro fill in the easier ground. Post depth and concrete get decided per run, and finding chert does not change your price.
- We Build To The City Specification. O’Fallon publishes wall thicknesses, ASTM requirements and reinforcement details for vinyl. Our products are engineered past that floor, not up to it.
- 25 Years To Lifetime Warranties. All our vinyl fencing products carry at least 25-year manufacturing warranties, most of them lifetime.
- Installed By Our Own Crews. Your fence is built by our own people rather than handed to a subcontractor. The crew that quotes it is the crew that stands behind it.
- We Check The Easement First. A fence built inside an easement can be removed by the utility with no compensation to you. We find the easement before we set a post, not after.
- Fifteen Days Is Not Long. The city gives owners fifteen days to fix a fence it calls unsightly. Vinyl, aluminum, steel and composite never trigger that notice.
- Financing Available. Financing through Synchrony for qualified buyers.
Which Fence Type Fits Your O'Fallon Property?
O’Fallon accepts synthetic materials, decorative aluminum, masonry and wrought iron, and prohibits barbed wire, razor wire, hardware cloth, wire mesh and electrified fencing outright. It also requires everything on one property to match. Here is what each of ours does.
What Fence Styles Are Popular for O'Fallon Homes and Businesses?
O’Fallon puts the whole fence behind the setback line, and then asks for one thing at the street that nobody expects.
Fencing forward of the required lot setback is prohibited, and fencing within the front yard setback is prohibited outright. The one exception is a lot with more than one side abutting a public street, where the fence may project up to ten feet over the building line, and only on the side yard adjacent to the street. Nothing may sit inside the twenty-five foot sight triangle.
Then the requirement people miss: every fence must have a gate or opening at least three feet wide on any side adjacent to a street. That is a design decision, not an afterthought, and it changes where a run starts and stops.
Six feet six inches is the ceiling, which is six inches more than most of the metro allows. Solid vinyl privacy panels use that height well. Composite does the same with more weight to it.
Aluminum suits the boundaries and the pool surrounds, and the finished side has to face outward on all of them, with visible supports turned in toward your property.

What Should You Know About O'Fallon Fence Rules?
O’Fallon regulates fences in more technical detail than any of its neighbors, and most of it is worth knowing before you buy.
O’Fallon sets its rules in Section 400.273, Fencing Standards, in the zoning code.
Any fence thirty inches or more in height needs a permit issued before construction, obtained from the Administrative Officer. The permit is not valid until the application is approved and the fees are paid. Work has to start within six months and finish within a year or the permit expires. A fence that does not comply must be dismantled and removed by the owner at their own expense, and each violation carries a fine of up to five hundred dollars.
Maximum height is six feet six inches unless the code says otherwise elsewhere.
A fence has to be built on or within your property lines. It may not sit in the State right-of-way without a State permit, and if it is built inside an easement it can be removed by the property owner or another authorized party without any compensation to you.
Installation may not obstruct a manhole or an inlet cover, and it may not impede or disturb existing drainage patterns, swales or natural water flows on your property or on adjacent ones.
Fencing forward of the required lot setback line is prohibited, and fencing within the front yard setback is prohibited. Where more than one side of the lot abuts a public street, the fence may project up to ten feet over the building line, but only on the side yard adjacent to that street. Decorative posts under thirty inches may go in the front yard if they stay at least two feet back from the property line.
Nothing may be placed inside the designated twenty-five foot sight triangle or erected in any way that impedes vehicular vision.
Every fence needs a gate or opening at least three feet wide on any side adjacent to a street. The finished side must face outward, with all visible supports and structural components facing in toward your property.
All fencing materials must be contiguous. Anything installed on a property has to be of the same material and design, and a fence of different material or design needs the Administrative Officer’s approval.
Acceptable materials include masonry, synthetic materials, natural and treated woods, wrought iron and decorative aluminum. Synthetic materials have to meet the minimum quality standards set out in the section itself. Barbed wire, razor wire, hardware cloth, wire mesh and electrified fencing are prohibited, with a narrow industrial exception for barbed wire under a conditional use permit.
Owners must repair, paint, remove or otherwise attend to any fencing that becomes unsightly or a menace, and the Administrative Officer can issue a notice giving fifteen days to comply.
Fencing in place before the section took effect is legal non-conforming and may stay, provided it is not replaced or relocated and the frame and structural supports are not altered in a way that extends or intensifies the non-conformity. Maintenance and repair are exempt.
What Do O'Fallon Customers Say?
A city that specifies wall thickness is a city that will notice a cheap fence. These ratings are public and current.
We hold a 4.7 star average on Google. Read the reviews on Google.
Outstanding job and at a very reasonable price. The stronger posts and deeper holes for the gates make a big difference. I got bids from well known firms 50% higher that did not include this attention to detail. Best of all, MFOS installed our fence several weeks ahead of their original estimate.

Griffin and Shawn were so nice and very easy to work with! They explained everything before, during and at the end, they were respectful of my home and yard, cleaned up after themselves each day, did the install in the promised time, and we are super happy with everything!

Shane and Griffin did a great job installing our fence. The team was professional and very friendly. Our house is arranged oddly on our lot and Shane did a great job working with us on positioning that was unclear in the preliminary drawing. We love the fence. It has transformed the look of our yard.

What Does a Fence Cost in O'Fallon?
An O’Fallon quote is shaped by two things more than most. The first is the specification, because a fence built to the city standard is not the cheapest fence available and should not be priced against one. The second is the ground.
Weller and Armster clay subsoils hold water and move, and Goss brings chert. Both mean deeper holes and more concrete on some runs than others. That risk stays with us under our hard hole policy, so hitting rock does not change the figure you agreed.
Add the permit, the gate the code requires on any street-facing side, and the fact that six feet six inches is available if you want it.
For current per-foot ranges by style and height, see our 2026 vinyl fence pricing guide, or the guides for pool fencing and aluminum. Then the line gets measured and you get a written figure that holds, free.
Fence Planning FAQs
Call us on 636-464-1144. In O’Fallon the questions worth asking early are about easements, setbacks and whether a new fence has to match what is already there.
How tall can a fence be in O'Fallon?
Six feet six inches, which is six inches more than most cities in this metro allow. That applies to the fence, any accompanying structure and decorative posts. The height is not the constraint most people run into though. Fencing forward of the required lot setback line is prohibited, and fencing within the front yard setback is prohibited outright, so where the fence can go tends to matter more than how tall it is.
Can I match a new fence to the one already on my property?
The code says all fencing materials must be contiguous, and that anything installed on a property has to be of the same material and design. So a new run in a different material alongside an existing fence is not automatically allowed. You can do it, but it needs the Administrative Officer’s approval first. In practice this comes up when someone wants to replace one side of a yard at a time. It is worth planning the whole boundary once and phasing the installation rather than mixing products and hoping.
What does the city require of a vinyl fence?
More than anywhere else we work. The code requires PVC to meet ASTM standards, to be impact tested for durability, to be formulated stable in ultraviolet light, and to be self-extinguishing with a flash temperature of not less than nine hundred degrees Fahrenheit. It publishes wall thicknesses for each post, rail and picket size, requires line posts to be fully reinforced and set to the minimum depth for the height, requires bottom rails to carry a steel or aluminum stiffener channel, and requires gates to be fully reinforced so they keep their shape. Everything we install is built past that standard rather than to it.
