Barnhart Fence Company

Maintenance-Free Outdoor Solutions has been installing vinyl, aluminum, steel and composite fence around Barnhart, Missouri since 1994. Barnhart is unincorporated, so Jefferson County rules apply rather than a city code, and that puts eight feet on the table where most of the metro stops at six.

Picket Fencing

Maintenance-Free Outdoor Solutions has helped Jefferson County homeowners since 1994, and our yard and showroom sit in Arnold a few minutes up the highway. We are family owned with an A+ BBB rating, and we work only in vinyl, aluminum, steel and composite. Nothing we install needs painting, sealing or staining to keep looking right, which on a Barnhart sized run is the difference between a fence you maintain and one you simply own.

Why Clients Choose Maintenance-Free Outdoor Solutions

Barnhart lots run larger than the metro average and the ground underneath them is not uniform. Rock outcrop is mapped inside the community, and a short distance away you can be into creek bottom silt along the Joachim and Rock Creek drainages.

That decides post depth and anchoring more than the fence style does. We walk the line and price the digging as we find it rather than from a formula.

Composite Fencing
  • Eight Feet Is Available Here. Jefferson County allows up to eight feet on rear and side property lines in residential zones. Most incorporated cities in the metro stop at six, so a Barnhart lot can do things a Kirkwood lot cannot.
  • 25 Years To Lifetime Warranties. All our vinyl fencing products carry at least 25-year manufacturing warranties, most of them lifetime.
  • Installed By Our Own Crews. Your fence is built by our own people rather than handed to a subcontractor. The crew that quotes it is the crew that stands behind it.
  • We Are Jefferson County Ourselves. Our yard and showroom are in Arnold, a few minutes up the highway. This is the county we work in every day, not one we visit.
  • No Hard Hole Surprises. Rock outcrop is mapped inside Barnhart. If a post hole finds rock, that is our problem and not a line added to your invoice.
  • Financing Available. Financing through Synchrony for qualified buyers.

Which Fence Type Fits Your Barnhart Property?

We install vinyl, aluminum, steel and composite across Barnhart and the surrounding Jefferson County communities. On larger parcels the runs get long, so cost per foot carries more weight here than it does on a quarter acre lot further north.

None of the four needs painting or sealing to hold its finish, which is the whole point on a line that may run several hundred feet.

What Fence Styles Are Popular for Barnhart Homes and Businesses?

With so many newer subdivisions and larger suburban lots here, backyard privacy fencing is by far the most requested choice, especially vinyl panels that block road noise from I-55 and create a private retreat for families.

Decorative aluminum is another favorite for homeowners who want an open, elegant look without sacrificing security. We also install pool fencing that meets safety codes, with clean, horizontal styles for those after a more modern feel.

What Should You Know About Barnhart Fence Rules?

Fence Post Hole Cross Section

Because Barnhart is an unincorporated community, fence rules come from Jefferson County Unified Development Order rather than a city code. The practical effect is that your zoning district, not your street, decides what you can build.

In the R-40, R-20, R-10 and R-7 residential districts, anything inside the front yard setback is capped at four feet. In the RA-5 Rural and LR-2 Large Lot districts you can go to eight feet at the front, but only if everything above the four foot mark is two-thirds open to one-third solid per square foot. An open aluminum or steel panel meets that. A solid privacy panel does not.

Rear and side lines are more generous. Up to eight feet is permitted on the rear property line where it abuts another lot or a designated thoroughfare, and up to eight feet on the side property line, except that nothing over four feet may sit forward of the front setback line on a corner lot.

One more catches people out. No fence is permitted in a required landscape area unless the county approves it or it forms part of an approved development plan. On the newer subdivisions that is worth checking against your plat before anything is ordered.

What Does a Fence Cost in Barnhart?

Barnhart pricing follows the usual drivers, length, height, material and access. Two things push it around more here than in the incorporated suburbs.

The first is that eight feet is allowed on rear and side lines, so the height decision is genuinely open rather than fixed at six by a city code. Taller costs more per foot and it is worth pricing both before you commit. The second is the digging. Rock outcrop is mapped inside Barnhart and the creek bottoms nearby are the opposite problem, so post depth is not a constant. Our hard hole policy keeps that risk with us rather than putting it on your invoice.

For current per-foot ranges by style and height, see our 2026 vinyl fence pricing guide, or the guides for pool fencing and aluminum. Then we measure the whole run on site and give you one fixed written price, free of charge.

Fence Planning FAQs

Call 636-464-1144 if you want your zoning district confirmed. In Jefferson County the district sets the height limit, and it is not always what neighbours assume, so it is worth settling before you plan the line.

Do I need a permit for a fence in Barnhart?

Barnhart is unincorporated, so anything required goes through Jefferson County rather than a city hall. The county Unified Development Order sets the height and placement rules, and your zoning district decides which of them apply to you. We confirm the district and handle the submission.

What is the two-thirds open rule?

It applies to front yard fences in the RA-5 Rural and LR-2 Large Lot districts, where you may build to eight feet instead of four. Everything above the four foot mark has to be two-thirds open space to one-third solid, measured per square foot. An open picket or rail style meets it. A solid privacy panel does not.

How tall can a fence be in Barnhart?

Up to eight feet along rear and side property lines in residential zones, which is taller than most cities in the metro allow. Front yards are capped at four feet in the standard residential districts. Corner lots and subdivision rules can tighten it, so we confirm before quoting.

Is financing available for a Barnhart fence?

Yes. We offer financing through Synchrony upon approval, so you can move forward with your project now and pay over time.
