Imperial Fence Company

Maintenance-Free Outdoor Solutions builds vinyl, aluminum, steel and composite fence that holds on Imperial, Missouri ground. Wet ground here holds water where you least want it, and that is what decides whether a fence stays straight.

Vinyl Fencing

Imperial has a drainage problem disguised as a soil problem, and it shows up in fences about three winters after they go in.

A good deal of the ground here sits low and stays damp, and parts of it have a dense layer below the surface that water cannot pass through. Rain reaches that layer, stops, and sits around your posts. Then it freezes. A post set to a standard depth in that ground will move, and once it starts it does not stop.

Thirty years of Jefferson County work sits behind that. Family owned, A+ rated with the BBB, and we install nothing that needs painting.

Why Customers Choose Maintenance-Free Outdoor Solutions

The soil survey tells the same story from the other direction. Across Imperial it maps low-lying Mississippi bottom ground, damp silt, and a series carrying a dense subsurface pan that perches water above it, with rock outcrop up on the higher ground. Two lots on the same street can need completely different footings.

Aluminum Fencing
  • We Set Posts For Wet Ground. Where water sits, depth alone does not solve it. Drainage at the base of the post, the right backfill and correct spacing are what keep an Imperial fence plumb through a freeze.
  • 25 Years To Lifetime Warranties. All our vinyl fencing products carry at least 25-year manufacturing warranties, most of them lifetime.
  • Installed By Our Own Crews. Your fence is built by our own people rather than handed to a subcontractor. The crew that quotes it is the crew that stands behind it.
  • Materials That Do Not Mind Damp. Standing water is what rots timber and rusts light steel. Vinyl, aluminum and composite are indifferent to it, which matters more in Imperial than in most places we work.
  • Rock On The High Ground. Up off the bottoms it flips and you hit rock instead. Our hard hole policy covers both, so the figure you approve is the figure you pay either way.
  • Financing Available. Financing through Synchrony for qualified buyers.

Which Fence Type Fits Your Imperial Property?

In Imperial the material question is really a moisture question. Whatever you choose has to spend part of every year in damp ground and still look right in a decade.

What Fence Styles Are Popular for Imperial Homes and Businesses?

What lasts in Imperial is decided below ground more than above it.

Vinyl privacy is the mainstay for back yards here and it suits the conditions well, because damp does nothing to it. Six to eight feet is available depending on which line you are building on, and it is the material most Imperial back yards end up with.

Composite gives the timber look without the part of timber that fails first, which in ground that stays wet is always the bottom of the board.

Aluminum handles pool enclosures and open runs, and it will not rust out at the base the way a lighter product does when it spends February standing in water. For commercial frontage, ornamental steel carries the weight and the finish.

A Clear Fence Installation Process for Imperial Properties

On an Imperial job the survey happens before the design, because the wet spots decide the footings and the footings decide the price.

Free
Estimate

We walk the line, find where water sits and where rock starts, and price it accordingly. No charge.

Onsite
Consultation

Grade, drainage paths, gates, utilities and any low ground all get looked at in the same visit.

Layout and Quote
Review

You approve the run, the height, the material and the final figure before anything is ordered.

Drainage and Setback Check

Imperial is unincorporated, so heights come from the Jefferson County zoning order and depend on your district and which property line you are building on. We confirm both.

Scheduling and Installation

Our own crew builds it, with footings specified for the ground we actually found rather than a standard depth.

Cleanup and Final Walkthrough

We take away what came out, tidy the line and walk the finished fence with you.

What Should You Know About Imperial Fence Rules?

Imperial has no city hall of its own, so the rules come from Jefferson County and vary by zoning district.

Fence Post Hole Cross Section

Imperial is unincorporated, so fence rules come from the Jefferson County zoning order rather than a local city hall, and what you are allowed depends on your zoning district and which line you are building on.

Rear and side property lines allow up to eight feet, with no requirement that the fence be open. Front yards inside the setback are held to four feet across the standard residential districts, while rural and large lot properties can reach eight if everything above four feet is built two-thirds open. On a corner lot nothing over four feet may sit forward of the front setback line.

No fence is permitted in a required landscape area unless the County has approved it, which is worth checking on newer plats before a layout is drawn.

The rule nobody writes down is the one that decides whether your fence survives. Where ground holds water, the depth of the hole matters less than what happens at the bottom of it. Water that cannot drain away freezes, expands, and lifts a post an inch at a time. Once a run starts leaning, straightening it means resetting posts rather than tightening panels.

That is why we walk an Imperial property before quoting rather than pricing from a plan. What we find in the ground changes the footing specification, and the footing specification is what the fence stands on for the next twenty years.

What Do Imperial Customers Say?

Imperial customers tend to have watched a previous fence fail, which makes them exactly the right kind of sceptical about how the next one gets built.

Fence Projects We've Completed in Imperial, MO

Every fence starts with a specific problem. A dog that keeps finding the gap, a pool that has to meet code, a property line that was never clearly marked, or an old fence that has finally given out.

These are real Imperial projects documented from the first walkthrough to the finished fence line, including the small decisions that are easy to overlook. Matching a neighbor’s existing fence, staying clear of a sprinkler line near the property edge, and checking picket spacing against the smallest dog in the house.

If one of them looks like your yard, it is a good place to start working out what your own project would involve.

What Does a Fence Cost in Imperial?

Material, height and gate count set the starting figure. In Imperial the ground decides how far it moves from there.

Wet ground needs more work at the base of every post, and rock on the higher lots needs more work getting into it. Both cost time. What they should not cost is a revised invoice, which is the point of quoting a hard hole policy rather than adding a charge when the digging turns out badly.

For current per-foot ranges by style and height, see our 2026 vinyl fence pricing guide, or the guides for pool fencing and aluminum. Then we walk the property and put a fixed figure in writing, free.

Fence Planning FAQs

Call us on 636-464-1144. In Imperial the useful conversation is usually about the ground rather than the fence.

How tall can a fence be in Imperial?

Up to eight feet on rear and side property lines. Front yards inside the setback are limited to four feet in the standard residential districts, or up to eight feet on rural and large lot properties provided everything above four feet is two-thirds open. Corner lots cannot carry anything over four feet forward of the front setback line. Imperial is unincorporated, so these come from Jefferson County rather than a city.

Why do fence posts lean in Imperial?

Almost always water. Much of Imperial sits low and damp, and some of the ground carries a dense layer below the surface that rain cannot drain through. Water collects around the post, freezes, expands and lifts it. Repeat that over a few winters and a straight run develops a wave. The fix is not a longer post on its own. It is drainage at the base, correct backfill and spacing that suits the ground.

Does wet ground change how a fence is built?

Yes, substantially. In wet ground we change what happens at the bottom of the hole rather than simply digging deeper, and we choose materials that do not care about damp. Timber fails from the bottom board upward in these conditions. Vinyl, aluminum and composite do not, which is the practical reason we install only those.
