Pick Montage for a back yard, Montage Plus for light commercial use, and Montage II for an industrial site. That is the short answer. Ameristar fencing is welded steel fence from Ameristar, a maker in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and it comes in four grades. Which one you need depends on what you are fencing and how hard it will be used. This page walks you through the choice.
Every Montage grade shares one trait. A panel bends up to 48 inches over an 8 foot span. So the fence can follow a slope instead of stepping down it. On a hilly yard that is the difference between a clean fence line and a row of gaps a dog can slip under.

The Four Ameristar Montage Grades, and Which One You Need
Ameristar sells its steel fence in four grades. Three are Montage grades, and above them sits a group of high-security fences. The three Montage grades look alike from the street. What changes is how thick the steel is, how long Ameristar backs the finish, and what the warranty will and will not cover. Read the four cards, then use the table to compare them side by side.

Skip it when the fence is for a business. Ameristar’s residential warranty does not cover non-residential use.
Two catches. Gates carry a 1 year warranty, and only the original buyer is covered. Also, Crescent panels do not rack, so skip that style on a slope.

Which Style for a Yard, a Pool or a Pet
Back yard
Taller is harder to climb, so 5 to 6 feet is the usual advice for a yard. Classic and Warrior give the traditional look.
Pool
4 feet is a common pool height, and Majestic and Genesis are the popular styles. Montage looks the same from both sides, so it looks right from the house and from the pool.
Pet
Picket spacing matters most. Ameristar offers a 3 inch and a 4 inch gap, and 3 is tighter. If your dog jumps or climbs, skip pointed tops such as Warrior. Crescent has protected tops, but Crescent panels do not rack, so it suits a flat yard.
Two numbers worth knowing. Ameristar's spec sheets list a minimum footing depth of 21 inches for Montage and 36 inches for Montage Plus. Your local code may call for more.
Buying the panels rather than the install? Each Ameristar Montage grade has its own page: Montage residential, Montage Plus commercial and Montage II industrial.
Where these numbers come from. Ameristar's Montage spec sheet and Montage Plus spec sheet (PDFs we keep on our resources page), Ameristar's own Montage II page, and Ameristar's 2020 residential Montage warranty (PDF). Warranty terms can change, so ask for the current document before you buy.
Not Sure Which Ameristar Grade You Need? That Is What the Estimate Is For
What an Ameristar Steel Fence Does, and What It Does Not Do
What an Ameristar steel fence does
- No painting. The E-coat finish is baked on, inside and out.
- Follows a slope. Panels bend up to 48 inches over an 8 foot span.
- Looks the same from both sides, so there is no bad side to hand your neighbor.
- Welded panels, not screwed together, so pickets do not work loose.
- Takes single, double and sliding gates.
What it does not do
- It will not give you privacy. You cannot block a view with it. To block a view, look at privacy fencing instead.
- It will not be the cheapest line on your estimate. Chain link costs less. So does wood, at first.
- It will not shrug off a deep gouge. If a mower cuts down to bare steel, touch it up.
Who it is not for. Steel fence is not for a yard where you want the view blocked. When a privacy fence is genuinely the better choice for the job, that is what you should buy. Fencing a site for one season? You do not need steel. Chain link is cheaper and nobody will care how it looks.
One limit on everything above. The grades, gauges and warranty terms here are Ameristar's published figures. Your own quote depends on your yard, your gates and your local code, and only an on-site measure settles it.
One Local Job, and One Thing We Cannot Show You
Before you hire anyone for a steel fence, ask whether the panels can follow your slope. There is no published Ameristar steel job on this site yet, so here is one real local job that shows the same problem. It used another metal, and this page says so rather than dressing it up.
Racking on a slope
O'Malley, Barnhart MO, May 2026: 171 linear feet of 54 inch fence and 3 gates on a steep dirt yard, finished in 2.5 days.
The gate areas turned out to be the hard part, because they sat on the slope. Our crew used rackable gates so they followed the ground instead of leaving a wedge of daylight underneath. That is the same panel behavior Ameristar Montage is built around.
This job was aluminum
The strength and warranty figures on this page come from Ameristar's published specs, not from a job on this site.
Ameristar Fencing: Common Questions
What is Ameristar fencing?
Ameristar fencing is welded ornamental steel fence, made by Ameristar in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The panels are welded rather than screwed, and the steel carries a baked-on E-coat finish, so it never needs painting. It is sold through dealers and installers.
Which Ameristar Montage grade do I need?
Montage for a house, a back yard or a pool fence. Montage Plus for light commercial use, or a home that wants the sturdier panel. Montage II for municipal, utility and industrial sites. High security for a site that has to keep people out. The estimator confirms it on site.
Where can I buy Ameristar fence near me?
Ameristar sells through dealers rather than direct, so searching for Ameristar fence distributors near me is the right move. In the St. Louis area this is your Ameristar fence dealer, based in Arnold, MO. You can buy the panels from the fence supply store or have them installed.
What warranty comes with an Ameristar fence?
Two separate ones. Ameristar warrants the finish: Lifetime Limited on Montage, and 20 years against rust on Montage Plus and Montage II. The installation carries a one year written guarantee from the installer. The manufacturer warranty is Ameristar's, not the installer's.
What does the Ameristar Montage warranty not cover?
Under Ameristar's 2020 residential Montage warranty, gates carry a 1 year warranty instead of lifetime. Only the original registered buyer is covered, so it does not pass to the next owner if you sell, and it does not apply to non-residential use. Ask for the current document before you buy.
Can an Ameristar fence follow a slope?
Yes. Every Montage panel bends up to 48 inches over an 8 foot span, so the fence line follows the ground instead of stepping down it. On a steep yard that is what stops gaps opening under the panels and the gates.
Do you install Ameristar fence, or only sell it?
Both. You can buy the material from the fence supply store, or have it installed for you. This dealership has installed Ameristar ornamental steel around St. Louis since 1994.
