This residential aluminum fence case study shows how Maintenance-Free Outdoor Solutions helped a St. Louis homeowner protect their garden, flowers, and bushes from deer damage with a taller matte black aluminum fence. The project included 260 linear feet of 6-foot aluminum picket fencing, 4 gates, and was completed in 3 days.
Unlike many backyard fence projects focused on pets, kids, or pool safety, this project had a different goal: helping reduce deer access to the yard. This project supports our aluminum fence installation work by showing how fence height, gate planning, concrete core drilling, and careful installation around tree roots came together on a completed residential fence project in St. Louis.

Aluminum Picket Fencing

Our salesman brought a sample of the matte black aluminum fence to the estimate so the homeowner could see the material, finish, and overall appearance in person. Since the main goal was to help keep deer out of the yard, he recommended a 6-foot aluminum fence instead of the more common 54-inch aluminum fence height.
The taller fence gave the customer a better solution for protecting the garden, flowers, and bushes while still keeping the open look of aluminum picket fencing. The matte black finish also helped the fence blend into the landscaping and yard instead of feeling visually heavy.
The customer also needed a single gate and a double drive gate in the same fence line over concrete. Because of that, the plan included core drilling through the concrete and setting the posts with hydraulic cement for a strong gate foundation.
The crew arrived on Tuesday during a stretch of very hot weather. The project was postponed one day because of rain, and the crew returned Thursday to continue the installation.
For the gate area over concrete, the crew core drilled through the concrete and used hydraulic cement to set the posts for the single gate and double drive gate. This gave the gate area a clean installation and a solid foundation.
The crew did run into roots on a few post holes because of the trees in the backyard, but the root conditions were not severe enough to delay the project. The team returned Friday and completed the 260-foot aluminum fence installation in a timely manner.
The customer loved the finished 6-foot matte black aluminum fence and how well it blended into the yard. The final result gave the homeowner a taller, open-style aluminum fence designed around their goal of helping protect the landscaping from deer.
These guys were great.....did an awesome job. We love our 6ft. fence.
