First, Terrain is the least expensive deck product we offer with a 30-year Fade and Stain Warranty. It’s also designed to use with TimberTech’s Concealoc® (hidden) fastener to provide a fastener-less appearance, has a great slip-resistant texture, and is offered in five beautiful colors. These are: Brown Oak, Silver Maple, Sandy Birch, Rustic Elm, and Stone Ash. Brown Oak and Silver Maple are variegated (streaked) colors adding an element of real wood appearance, while Sandy Birch, Rustic Elm, and Stone Ash are solid colors for those who are looking for a clean and crisp appearance.
Terrain is a scalloped profile. This means, unlike a standard TimberTech deck board which is rectangular-shaped, Terrain’s top and both sides are straight, but the bottom of the profile has two cavities and three areas that rest on the floor joist. There’s less material used in this profile which makes the price point lower than a fully rectangular shaped profile, plus TimberTech’s engineers have designed out weight and designed in strength!
Even though there isn’t as much material used with the Terrain profile, both Terrain and the rectangular shaped TimberTech profile requires a maximum floor joist spacing of 16” (center-to-center) in residential settings when the deck boards are placed perpendicular to the floor joists. If you place the deck boards at a 45-degree angle in relationship to the floor joists, then the floor joist spacing must be reduced to a maximum of 12” center to center.
Terrain’s grooved deck boards (to accept the Concealoc® Hidden Fastener) come in lengths of 12’, 16’ and 20’. For stair areas, TimberTech provides and recommends solid-edged deck boards (in 16’ & 20’ lengths) and color coordinated Toploc™ screws be used to secure your steps to your stair stringers. This method will provide a more secure installation, and the solid edge of the board will be more attractive than a grooved board for people to see as they walk up the steps. Matching fascia and riser boards in 12’ lengths are also available. MFOS also offers through TimberTech Endcoat™ which is a specially formulated paint to touch up any exposed edges of your deck boards, fascia boards, and railing.
Simply put, the scalloped edge of the Terrain collection offers an affordable alternative with the same superior quality and low-maintenance that homeowners have come to expect from TimberTech capped composites!
