Maintenance-Free Outdoor Solutions installs vinyl, aluminum, steel and composite fence throughout Des Peres, Missouri. Every fence needs a city permit, chain link is not allowed, and nothing over three feet can go in front of the house.
Des Peres is one of the few cities in the metro where the code rules out a whole category of fence. Chain link is prohibited outright. That leaves the four materials we already build in, so the conversation here starts where the code leaves off rather than ending there.
The permit is more involved than most as well. The city wants two copies of an image or rendering of the fence you intend to build, plus two copies of a survey or plot plan with the fence and every gate drawn on it. There is a $30 processing fee and a $250 street deposit that is returned to you once the final inspection passes.
Why Customers Choose Maintenance-Free Outdoor Solutions
Then there is what is actually under the yard. Much of Des Peres maps as urban land and Harvester, which is the soil survey recording ground that was graded and filled when the subdivisions went in. Around and beneath it sits deep Menfro, Winfield and Crider silt loam. Post depth has to answer to whichever one your fence line crosses.
- Chain Link Is Not An Option Here. Des Peres prohibits it outright. Vinyl, aluminum, steel and composite are all permitted, and all four are what we install, so nothing we quote you runs into that rule.
- 25 Years To Lifetime Warranties. All our vinyl fencing products carry at least 25-year manufacturing warranties, most of them lifetime.
- Installed By Our Own Crews. Your fence is built by our own people rather than handed to a subcontractor. The crew that quotes it is the crew that stands behind it.
- We Prepare The Permit Submission. The rendering, the marked up plot plan, the fee and the deposit. We file it and book the final inspection so the $250 comes back to you.
- We Leave Your Drainage Alone. The code forbids disturbing existing drainage patterns and swales. On graded West County lots those swales were engineered, so we set the line to keep them working.
- Financing Available. Financing through Synchrony for qualified buyers.
Which Fence Type Fits Your Des Peres Property?
The city narrows the field for you by banning chain link. What is left is the four materials below, and the choice mostly comes down to what the fence has to do in front of the building line versus behind it.
What Fence Styles Are Popular for Des Peres Homes and Businesses?
Des Peres asks two different things of a fence depending on where it sits.
In front of the house the constraint is height. Anything over thirty-six inches cannot be built in front of a building, so front yard fencing here is a low ornamental line rather than screening. Aluminum at three feet is the usual answer. On a corner lot it also has to stay clear of the sight distance triangle on the yard facing the two streets.
Behind the building line you can go to six feet, and that is where solid vinyl privacy and composite do their work. Six feet is a hard ceiling, so the design question becomes panel style and color rather than height.
Two rules apply everywhere on the lot. The finished side has to face out from the enclosed area, and every component has to sit on or inside your property line rather than over it.
A Clear Fence Installation Process for Des Peres Properties
Des Peres reviews every fence before it goes up. We handle the submission, so the timeline is predictable.
Free
Estimate
We walk the property, find the building line, look at the ground and price it. No charge.
Onsite

You approve the run, the heights, the style and the final figure before anything is ordered.
Permit, Survey and Deposit
We put together the rendering and the marked up plot plan the city asks for, file it with the fee and the $250 deposit, and confirm approval before we schedule.
Scheduling and Installation
Dig-Rite is called before anyone breaks ground. Our own crew sets the posts, with depth chosen for fill or for undisturbed silt.

We clear the site, walk the finished line with you, and book the city final inspection that releases your deposit.
What Should You Know About Des Peres Fence Rules?
Des Peres puts its fence requirements on a single page of the permit application, which makes them easy to check and easy to fall foul of.
Des Peres requires a permit for every residential fence, filed with Public Works at 12325 Manchester Road or by email to permits@desperesmo.org.
The submission is two copies of an image or rendering of the fence type, plus two copies of a survey or plot plan showing where the fence and the gates will go. There is a $30 processing fee for a residential fence and a $250 street and development deposit, both collected when the permit is issued. The deposit is refundable after the final inspection, which is booked on 314-835-6130.
Six feet is the maximum height anywhere on the property. Anything over thirty-six inches cannot be constructed in front of a building, and on a corner lot the fence may not extend beyond the building line or encroach the sight distance triangle of the yard adjacent to the two streets.
Chain link fences are prohibited. All fence components have to stay on or within your property lines, and the finished side has to face out from the enclosed area.
Two more are easy to miss. Installing a fence may not disturb existing drainage patterns or swales, which on graded West County lots is a genuine constraint rather than a formality. And Dig-Rite has to be contacted on 800-344-7483 before any digging begins.
Subdivision covenants sit on top of all of this. Several Des Peres neighborhoods restrict height, color and style more tightly than the city does, and a city permit does not override them.
What Do Des Peres Customers Say?
Des Peres homeowners tend to check before they hire. These ratings are public and current, and they are the same ratings whether the job is here or two towns over.
We hold a 4.7 star average on Google. Read the reviews on Google.
Tony was very helpful in helping to design our fence, and Shane and Eric did a wonderful job installing our new fence. Overall, it was an excellent experience!
Kristen SwearnginGoogle review
Just had our fence installed and they got us in about 3 weeks earlier than originally scheduled. Tony the salesman came out twice to do different estimates and was very good at explaining and answering questions. The crew that installed, Cody, Dakota and Bailey, did a great job.
Lisa LaBoubeGoogle review
The fence they installed turned out beautiful. Shane, Ben and Dakota did a fabulous job. They were very professional and conscientious. Not only did they come in way under the other company quotes, the quality is far better. Highly recommend.

What Does a Fence Cost in Des Peres?
A Des Peres quote has two parts most quotes do not. The permit fee and the refundable street deposit are city charges, and we tell you what they are rather than folding them into a number.
After that the drivers are the usual ones: length, height, material, and how much of the run sits in front of the building line, since that stretch is capped at thirty-six inches and often ends up a different product from the back yard. Filled ground can also mean deeper posts, and our hard hole policy keeps that risk with us.
For current per-foot ranges by style and height, see our 2026 vinyl fence pricing guide, or the guides for pool fencing and aluminum. Then we measure the line properly and put a fixed figure in writing, free.
Fence Planning FAQs
Call us on 636-464-1144. Most Des Peres questions are about the permit and what the deposit is for, and both have short answers.
Does Des Peres require a permit for a fence?
Yes, for every residential fence. You submit two copies of a rendering of the fence and two copies of a survey or plot plan showing the fence and the gates, pay a $30 processing fee and a $250 refundable deposit, and call for a final inspection when the work is finished. We prepare and file that submission for you.
What is the $250 deposit on the fence permit?
It is a street and development deposit, and you get it back. The city collects it when the permit is issued and returns it once the final inspection has passed, which is how it makes sure a contractor leaves the street, the curb and the yard the way they were found. It is not a fee and it is not part of the fence price. We book the final inspection as part of the job so the money comes back to you rather than sitting with the city.
Why is chain link not allowed in Des Peres?
The permit requirements state plainly that chain link fences are prohibited, and the city does not publish a reason. In practice it is an appearance standard, consistent with the rest of the Des Peres design rules. It makes no difference to what you can have. Vinyl, aluminum, steel and composite are all permitted, and none of them need painting or staining to keep looking right.
