De Soto Fence Company

Maintenance-Free Outdoor Solutions builds vinyl, aluminum, steel and composite fence for De Soto, Missouri properties. Six feet is allowed behind the house. In front, the limit is four feet and no more than thirty percent solid, which rules out most privacy panels at the street.

Vinyl Fencing

De Soto has one rule that decides more projects than any other, and most homeowners have not heard it until we say it out loud.

Anywhere forward of your main building line, a fence may be no taller than four feet and no more than thirty percent solid. Not fifty percent. Thirty. That is stricter than anywhere else we work, and it means a solid privacy panel simply cannot go at the front of a De Soto lot.

Behind the building line the rule relaxes to six feet, and that is where the real privacy gets built. We have installed across Jefferson County since 1994. A family business with an A+ BBB rating, building in vinyl, aluminum, steel and composite only.

Why Customers Choose Maintenance-Free Outdoor Solutions

Then there is what is under the yard. De Soto sits on some of the thinnest soil in the region. The survey maps rock outcrop at the surface and Moko ground, which is shallow soil sitting directly on bedrock, alongside cherty, rock-filled series. Post holes here are the hardest we dig anywhere in the metro.

Aluminum Fencing
  • Thirty Percent, Not Fifty. Forward of your building line De Soto allows four feet and no more than thirty percent solid. It is the tightest front yard rule in our service area, and designing to it is the difference between an approved fence and one you rebuild.
  • 25 Years To Lifetime Warranties. All our vinyl fencing products carry at least 25-year manufacturing warranties, most of them lifetime.
  • Installed By Our Own Crews. Your fence is built by our own people rather than handed to a subcontractor. The crew that quotes it is the crew that stands behind it.
  • Bedrock Is Our Problem. Shallow soil over rock is normal here, not an exception. When the auger stops early the number on your quote does not move. That is the whole point of a hard hole policy in a town like this one.
  • Corner Lots Get Measured Properly. On a De Soto corner, nothing may block vision between two and eight feet inside a twenty foot triangle at the intersection. We lay that out before quoting rather than discovering it at install.
  • Financing Available. Financing through Synchrony for qualified buyers.

Which Fence Type Fits Your De Soto Property?

In De Soto the honest conversation is about where the building line falls. Everything behind it is open to you. Everything in front of it is not. We work that out on site before quoting a material.

What Fence Styles Are Popular for De Soto Homes and Businesses?

De Soto splits a property in two, and the fence you can build depends entirely on which side of the house you are standing.

Behind the main building line, six feet is permitted and solid is fine. Vinyl and composite privacy do their job here, and this is where almost every De Soto privacy project actually happens.

In front of that line the rule is four feet and no more than thirty percent solid. In practice that means an open ornamental aluminum or a widely spaced picket. A solid panel at thirty percent is not a design problem, it is an impossibility, so nobody should be quoting you one.

The code also settles the neighbor argument for you. Supporting posts, cross members and protruding hardware on any site-obscuring fence have to sit inside your lot and face your side, so the finished face looks outward by law rather than by courtesy.

What Should You Know About De Soto Fence Rules?

De Soto writes its fence rules around the main building line rather than the property line, which is why so many people get the front of the lot wrong.

Fence Post Hole Cross Section

De Soto sets its fence rules in Section 405.350 of the zoning code, and it measures from the main building rather than the property line.

Forward of the main building, no fence may be more than four feet high or more than thirty percent solid. Both limits apply at once, so a four foot solid panel is out and so is a taller open one. Our guide to fence height regulations sets that against the rest of the region if you want the comparison.

On the parts of the lot that sit as far back as the main building or further, fences up to six feet are permitted. That is where privacy work belongs in De Soto, and there is no solidity limit there.

Corner lots carry a separate rule. Nothing may materially impede vision between two and eight feet above curb grade inside the triangle formed by the street pavement edges and a line joining them twenty feet from the intersection. The City Manager can widen or narrow that triangle where traffic safety calls for it.

The code also decides which way the fence faces. All supporting posts, cross members and protruding bolts, screws and hardware on a site-obscuring fence or privacy screen must sit inside your lot and face inward, which puts the finished side toward your neighbor as a requirement rather than a favor.

Because both the height and the solidity rule hinge on where your main building sits, we establish that line on site before quoting anything.

What Do De Soto Customers Say?

De Soto is a town where the same crews get recommended by name, and we would rather earn that than advertise for it.

Our fence installation team of Shane, Andrew and RJ were highly skilled and great to work with. Even when we threw them a last minute design change, they quickly came up with a perfect solution and integrated it into the finished design. We love our new fence.

What Does a Fence Cost in De Soto?

Material, height, gate count and ground conditions set a De Soto price, and here the ground carries more weight than usual.

Shallow soil over bedrock means slower post setting on a real share of lots. Plenty of contractors price for easy digging and add a charge when it is not, which is exactly the surprise our hard hole policy removes. The front yard rule matters to the budget too, because an open aluminum run at the street is a different material from the privacy panel going in out back.

For current per-foot ranges by style and height, see our 2026 vinyl fence pricing guide, or the guides for pool fencing and aluminum. Then we measure the property and put a fixed figure in writing, at no cost.

Fence Planning FAQs

Call us on 636-464-1144. In De Soto the first question is nearly always what can go at the front, and the answer is narrower than most people expect.

How tall can a fence be in De Soto?

Six feet on the parts of your lot that sit as far back as the main building or further. Forward of that line the limit is four feet, and the fence may be no more than thirty percent solid. Both limits apply together, so height alone is not the whole answer in De Soto.

Can I put a privacy fence in my De Soto front yard?

No. Forward of the main building line De Soto caps a fence at four feet and at thirty percent solid, and a privacy panel cannot meet the second limit at any height. What does work at the front is an open ornamental aluminum or a widely spaced picket. Full privacy belongs behind the building line, where six feet is permitted and there is no solidity restriction.

Why is digging harder in De Soto than elsewhere?

Because the soil is thin here. The survey maps rock outcrop at the surface across parts of De Soto, along with Moko ground, which is shallow soil sitting straight on bedrock, and cherty rock-filled series. That is genuinely harder digging than most of the metro, and it is why we quote a hard hole policy rather than adding a charge when the auger stops early.
